briggella
I have just bought an HP officejet 5110 which connects by usb. It appears to be too new to have a driver available in Mandrake 9.0. I can get black and white output via the officejet driver, but no colour. The Linux hardware database seems to have disappeared into a black hole since zdnet took it over so difficult to check out drivers. Does anybody know of a printer that it emulates just to get some basic colour output. If anyone knows of the current whereabouts of the Linux Hardware Database I would be grateful also. pmpatrick
Here's a link on the HP Officejet 6110 which may be similar: http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer....-OfficeJet_6110 Are you using the hpijs driver from HP? It's pretty much recomended for most HP printers(including the above) and is the one I use with good results on my HP PhotoSmart 1000. It also should be an option for most HP printers when you configure using printdrake i.e. it's included with Md 9.0. For general info on printing/linux check out linuxprinting.org above; it's great. briggella
I tried the hpijs -rss driver as recommended in Mandrake for the 6110 and the 990c as I had heard that the 6110 was similar to that one, but all it did was spit out a blank page at me in disgust. I can print monochrome with the plain officejet driver. I suppose I could go through trying out every recent printer emulation but that could take a bit of time. I wonder how much difference there is in the code between different HP drivers. I'm sure HP wouldn't want to reinvent the wheel each time they produce a new printer. :?
