Canon i560 Won't Work [solved]

I've read many of the posts regarding printer setup and also the FAQ's. I've worked through the printer setup on MCC, but I still can't get my Canon i560 to work. It worked fine until I upgraded to LE 2006. The other thing I did was to go to DSL and a home network. Everything works as it should except the printer. I even had my wife's laptop running WinXP sharing this printer until a day or so ago. Now the #$% won't work. I've changed something but I don't know what. I'm looking for suggestion on how to get this Canon working. Did I say I have Turboprint installed? It's worked fine in the past.

I am not familiar with turbo print. I use printers that work with linux. Try this link.

You may have to use samba to share the printer. I use a windows machine to share devices, and linux usually does fine.

I'd like to trade the canon for an epson, but that's not in my current budget. BTW, I see that you are using Kubuntu. How do you like it and why do you use it? I have the Kubuntu CD but have not installed it. I could put it on my windows partition if it's worth the effort.

I first started using ubuntu, but prefer kde over gnome. So I installed kubuntu. It was generally faster than Mandriva, although 2006 is really redponds faster than 2005le. The package manager is better with Debian based products (Ubuntu and Kubuntu) but I still like Mandriva.

1. Is CUPS daemon running?

2. Did you re-run Turboprint's setup after upgrading?

Under the directory /etc/turboprint you have the two Turboprint configuration files ( system.cfg and turboprint.cfg ), checkout if they point to the correct system and cups locations.

PS: I have a Canon Pixma i5000 which works great (with Turboprint) under Arch Linux, PCLinuxOS, Mandriva, Kanotix, Slackware... provided that I set it up correctly, of course.

1. Yes, CUPS is running

2. I have re-run Turboprint setup

3. I also check the parallel cable at both ends

4. Both the "cfg" files are present in /etc/turboprint and both files seem to be okay but then I'm not knowledgable about the correct content. (See below)

5. I'm wondering if the problem is somewhere in the hetwork setup. I think I mentioned that I have a notebook wireless feeding into this desktop.

I appreciate your time and help with my problem.

Oh, I forgot to tell you... sorry about that:

Mandriva 2006 won't run properly any Turboprint version older than 1.93, due to some library conflict. This is clearly mentioned on the release errata notes.

So- if you don't run 1.93 already just update. Your old purchased key is good enough for that version (as well as future program updates).
