Couldn't I just remove the PCI card? as I have one of those external broadband modems that connects to the PC via USB, or wouldn't that work either? External USB broadband modem/routers mostly work, and ethernet modem/routers work without any issues- at least I haven't met one up to date which doesn't work. arctic Posted August 31, 2005 Report Share Posted August 31, 2005 If you removed the card, the automatic hardware detection will notice this. No need for a reinstall. Did it stop at the same stage or did it report something different? (hit "esc" in order to see all messages). I must admit, that I have no clue what hardware piece does not work nice with Mandriva. But as you already have a Knoppix cd that apparently worked, you can try a harddisk-install with Knoppix. This would give you at least a fully working Linux system (Knoppix uses Debian packages btw.). The DVD is good I did a normal install on Virtual PC. Other distro's worked well (FC4, Mepis live CD, Knoppix live cd and Mandriva 2005 LE) There are no PCI's now. I got to the section about USB stuff The guilty party is in my case at least: Legacy USB Support witch must be Disabled I am pretty sure that it was Enabled or on Auto Maybe it will work for Fink. The problem was indeed with my Legacy USB support which is now disabled. I now have a fully working linux system! All I have to do now is set up my adsl modem but I think I can handle that lol.
