SoulSe
I think Google are aiming for the voice + video primarily with their client. I haven't tried it though, since I don't have a windows partition. Question: if I use iChat AV on my iBook to connect to someone with the Google client, I'll be able to do AV, right? ramfree17
Question: if I use iChat AV on my iBook to connect to someone with the Google client, I'll be able to do AV, right? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> i doubt. the iChat is listed in the initial client matrix and the only one listed there which oculd do audio is Google Talk. knowing google, they would incorporate new features as time passes. our company has a very 'strict' firewall and they have already blocked most email providers. i am dying to try to see if google talk is blocked also. anybody know the ports used by gt? :D ciao! tyme
it uses the jabber protocol, so you connect on port 5222

SoulSe
AFAIK you can connect on 5223 as well, that's what ichat used. Hmmm... I wonder if the 5222 port is only for text (because that's what they tell you to use with Gaim) and 5223 is for AV ('cus they tell you to use that for iChat)? fissy
5222 is to HTTP as 5223 is to HTTPS (They do the same thing but the latter is encrypted) edit: Newer clients can also talk to the server and arrange encryption on port 5222. Gaim can do this so it would be best to connect on 5222, whereas ichat cannot (i guess), making it a legacy client.
