What output/error message do you get when you type "mcc" in the terminal? The same as above? And which Mandriva/mandrake version are you using? Have you tweaked your system lately? Added some packages (official/unofficial/self-made)?

Okay, it looks as if there went something horribly wrong. Lots of packages missing. Important are in this respect e.g. the missing fonts. without font-definitions, mcc can't start. Try to install the packages as devries suggested in the other thread. If needed, try to force the install. The worst thing that can happen is that you completely mess up the system and reinstalling might be the easier road then, but that wouldn't be a great loss as your system apparently is already in bad condition.

Btw: which mirror were you using that caused this disaster?

mirror?

kde 3.3

No- he means urpmi repository. It's rather obvious that you have mixed your current distro repository (likely Mandrake 10.0, since your kernel is 2.6.8-something) with 10.1/10.2/Cooker ones, and borked your perl installation.

If perl is borked, then the easiest solution out for non-technical users is reinstalling from scratch (and of course, never, ever mixing repositories again).

thanks.

going to install again. getting used to this...

You really don't have to "getting used to this". Once you don't mix things, you have to install a Linux distro just ONCE, and having it running forever. But you should NOT install stuff from any possible place on the net (just the official Mandriva repos, and PLF), if you don't have the experience (yet) to resolve dependencies' issues. Once you do have a good idea on how Linux is working, it is MUCH easier to handle/update than Windows, but if you jump in and you consider yourself an expert, just because you ARE a windows expert, then it's guaranteed that you will reinstall once a week or so...
