omcaree
Hey all, After I recently updated my machine to all new hardware, I did a fresh install of Mandriva 2005LE. however the installation froze while loading the SATA controller (NVIDIA CK804 i think), this worried me for a while as i thoughti might have to use windoze on my new machine, but after thinking about it i tried the install using 'linux noapic' and it didn't freeze. The rest of the install was fine and I'm writing this message from my new machine which is in perfect working order. My question is, why does the installation freeze? and how does noapic fix it? and finally, does this have any consequences, such as a performance drop? (I cant say that i've noticed any) I'm in no real hurry for answers, just looking to broaden my knowledge a little, any replies welcomed. kristi
I think I get that "linux noapic" would be entered on an install by pressing F1. But where would I enter it on a regular boot? (I'm using LILO). tia! Kristi EDIT - oh, got it, it goes in the append= field Edited August 17, 2005 by kristi
