Guest tomb
I have Mdk 9 running on a Sharp Actius A150. Using IceWM it runs quite well but after getting sound to run one time, I've been unable to get it to run. The sound device is a CS4232 (well supported by Linux). Every time I try to get sound to run and then check the status using fuzer I'm told it's being used by artsd. I really would like to get this going and any help will be appreciated
bvc
Where did you get sound and where are you trying to get sound? XMMS? Game? Try to get output from artsplay (/usr/bin/artsplay) from a terminal. artsplay /home/path/to/file.wav
Guest tomb
I was using RealPlayer the 1st time when it worked. It no longer works but I've been trying Kaboodle to play wav files. I tried the artsplay command ... no joy. Also, indirectly related, I managed to remove the menu bar from Kmix and would like to get it back. Can't find a restore command anywhere. Help on this would also be appreciated.

Guest tomb
Thanks for the Kmix tip. I got sound working for the moment. I removed sndconfig and isapnptools then reinstalled them and ran sndconfig. Had to do a manual install using the parameters on a web site from a fellow with the same device. I'd used these same variables before but this time it worked.
gregor
Set up artsd to stop after one second so that there is sound in programs that don't use artsd. http://gershwin.ens.fr/vdaniel/Doc-Locale/...ex-2.html#ss2.4 You should use applet instead: http://dforce.sh.cvut.cz/~seli/download/tips.html
bvc
I tried the applet, but it did work.
