Hello! :)

I've configured a pc with mandrake 9.2 to act both as firewall/proxy.I've 2 NICs on the the machine onw facing the internet other my lan.

The problem is that some time after starting the machine the network stops working. I checked syslog and found the following message:

"kernel: Suspending via_rhine" (via_rhine is my NIC).

Can someone tell me why is this happening and how i can avoid it?

thanks!

Biz - I've removed your duplicate post in Terminal Shell Commands, etc, as it causes confusion and is unnecessary as most members use the View New Posts facility...  :)

Thanks! :) I posted there hoping that it should be a kernel issue instead of a network issue, but I'm not shure... I'm a zero as far as kernel issues as concerned.

well let's hope someone takes a guess on this.

Thanks again!

What do you see in the Mandrake Control Center? Is the connection halted? Try setting it up again and use only the deafults.

Well... I'm working in text-only mode, so.. no mcc!

but here it goes my ifcfg-eth0 file (facing lan)

DEVICE=eth0
BOOTPROTO=static
IPADDR=192.168.bla.bla
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
NETWORK=192.168.1.0
BROADCAST=192.168.1.255
ONBOOT=yes
MII_NOT_SUPPORTED=yes

and my ifcgf-eth1 (facing router)

DEVICE=eth1
BOOTPROTO=static
IPADDR=192.168.bla.bla
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
NETWORK=192.168.1.0
BROADCAST=192.168.1.255
ONBOOT=yes
MII_NOT_SUPPORTED=yes

And about the network being halted... yes... it halts. or at least i must restart it since i can't seem to ping/access other machines on the same network... :wall:

thanks!

Don't know about the suspending prob, but these NICs should be on different networks, for instance 192.168.1.x and 192.168.2.x.

I suspect restarting the network sets the routing table so that 'it works'.

Set up 2 separate networks and you will probably find the problem disappears...
