    Well... problem with NIC

Thanks! :) I posted there hoping that it should be a kernel issue instead of a network issue, but I'm not shure... I'm a zero as far as kernel issues as concerned. well let's hope someone takes a guess on this. Thanks again!
  3. Hello! :) I've configured a pc with mandrake 9.2 to act both as firewall/proxy.I've 2 NICs on the the machine onw facing the internet other my lan. The problem is that some time after starting the machine the network stops working. I checked syslog and found the following message: "kernel: Suspending via_rhine" (via_rhine is my NIC). Can someone tell me why is this happening and how i can avoid it? thanks!

    problem with DNS

Thank you all for your support. I guess i owe a satisfation to all the guys that tried to help, so here it goes: I had to get mad with the ISP that is providing our link so their network team move their asses and start to look where they should :P The problem was that apparently our requests, by some strange reason, started to bounce between 2 routers... they are working on the case. Once again, thank you all guys! Now that i have more free time and less headches, I will try to help others 2...

    problem with DNS

I didn't install any FW, precisely to prevent that kind of problems.. all the protection is done my an hardware FW. Since the things are working (very poorly, but working) I guess that I'll wait 4 the weekend and do a major system reinstall. meanwhile if someone remebers anything... ;) Thanks for all your help.

    problem with DNS

Hello Qchem, I configured the connection as a Lan connection when I installed mandrake, suing the wizard that comes with the installer... I already did some checks on the config files an they seem to be as they were supposed... :S the only different thing that I did was to set the security level to "high", usually i keep it at "normal". Maybe if i try to install the system again with the normal security settings and without any servers and check if i can connect to internet.. and they, if i can, work from there... babysteps ;) what do you think? Thanks! :)

    problem with DNS

Yes.. those are the ip adresses of my dns servers. the server is connected to a router with 2 interfaces: 1 is directly connected to the server and the other one is connected to a switch to give internet access to the poor users. (lol) Those dns servers are from my isp and are the ones the same that are used by the rest of the machines in the network. One more info about this situation... i entered in the graphic mode and checked mcc and found that acording to mcc i'm not connected to internet. I mean.. eth0 is up and configured with a static ip, gateway is also configured but mandrake says it can't connect to internet... thanks for all your attention! :)

    problem with DNS

Thank you both anon and QChem. Finally my resolv.conf stopped changing! :D But i still can't ping domain names and now i have another problem... postfix stopped responding. i tried to connect first using thunderbird and then telnet and nothing... when i putted back my old resolv.conf file it started to work fine again. any ideas?
  11. Hello there! ;) I have a apache/postfix server running mandrake 9.2 configured with static ip and connected to a cisco 1721 router. the problem is that this machine can't resolve ip adresses :( I mean, the machine is accepting request forom outside the network, i can view a webpage perfectly and so... here are the simptoms: when i ssh to the machine from inside the network it takes 2 long 2 connect. when i try to read mail it takes 2 long to connect if i ping a domain name the request times out (but ping work fine with the ip adress). my resolv.conf s like this: search pt local nameserver 127.0.0.1 nameserver 194.79.69.222 nameserver 194.79.69.129 # ppp temp entry I tried to delete the first nameserver entry but it keeps appearing after a while :( Can anyone help me with this issue please? Thanks, Pedro
