Maestro 2E (Canyon3D) Soundcard and Sidewinder Gamepad

Hi I can't get my Sidewinder Gamepad to work on LM9.0.

I've got a Terratec Soundsystem DMX Soundcard (module maestro) with a Gameport. The Microsoft Sidewinder Gamepad is connected to the this Gameport.

I tried loading Joydev gameport ns558 and sidewinder modules... everything goes fine except the ns558 module that gives me

[root@black-sunshine itti]# modprobe ns558

/lib/modules/2.4.19-16mdk/kernel/drivers/char/joystick/ns558.o.gz: init_module: No such device

Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.

You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg

modprobe: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.19-16mdk/kernel/drivers/char/joystick/ns558.o.gz failed

modprobe: insmod ns558 failed

I think the Gameport on the Soundcard doesn't work with the ns558 module. Any suggestions?

ns558 is used for built in gameport in the motherboard, I think (according to the help in the kernel compile, it is used for ISA or PnP gameports). Unfortunately, I don't know what chipset it used for soundcard, Terratec DMX? However, try the module pcigame instead.

Hope it helps

The Terratec DMX uses the Canyon 3d as soundchip... this is compatible with Ess Maestro2e so therefore the "maestro" kernel module is used.

modprobe pcigame gives me:

/lib/modules/2.4.19-16mdk/kernel/drivers/char/joystick/pcigame.o.gz: init_module: No such device

Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.

You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg

modprobe: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.19-16mdk/kernel/drivers/char/joystick/pcigame.o.gz failed

modprobe: insmod pcigame failed

is there any way to find out for what a module looks before it says "no such device"?

Do exactly as it says :

You may  find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg

Look in syslog or in the output of the "dmesg" command.
