Edd
Sometimes, when I boot my laptop, SE2005 fails to load my sound card, so the mixer icon has a large red "X" on top of it and claims there is no audio device. Sometimes if I reboot it will see it, other times it won't. It is an ATI card, I think the driver was snd-atiixp. Any idea what may be going on? Thanks a lot :)
scarecrow
When an X icon appears: Type "modprobe snd-atiixp" and "modprobe snd-pcm-oss" at a root console. Do you get any errors? If you don't, open userdrake and get sure your current user belongs to the "audio" group. BTW does this happen if you log in as root? Edd
Sorry I ent got back sooner, it sometimes works for a few days then will just dive... Well I did the modprobe commands - no errors. And I have added me to the audio group. It seems the same when as root. Also, sometimes, I'll log on, there won't be an X but the sound will still not work properly. If I change the engine in Amarok I can sometimes get some audio or I just reboot and hope for the best. What could be causing this rather odd problem?
