daniewicz
Using firefox 1.04 and mplayerplugin I am able to view successfully the test videos located at http://fredrik.hubbe.net/plugger/test.html. However, when I visit CNN.com and attempt to view their videos I see the following: plugin warning we are unable to determine the version of Windows Media Player installed If I ignore the warning, I am able to view the video but upon completion when I attempt to close the window spawned by the video playback firefox will lock up. If I try to view video from usatoday I am greeted with a message stating that: To view USA TODAY FeedRoom you must have Macromedia Flash Player and either Windows Media Player (7.1 or higher) or Real Player (RealOne or higher) installed on your computer, and use Internet Explorer 5.5, Safari or a Mozilla-based browser. After this I can proceed no further.... Does anyone have a solution to these problems? Are they related?
Sunsela
daniewicz, I don't have a solution, but the same thing happens to me on CNN since they've changed from Quicktime or RealPlayer to Windows Media Player. Closing the window causes Firefox to crash every time. Sunsela
devries
Doesn't lock up for me (mozilla-firefox-1.0.4-1.102mcnl). For USAtoday try installing realplayer one.

scarecrow
Which mplayer win32-codecs do you use? Try the full package from mplayer site, and not the Mandy PLF RPM. Edited July 6, 2005 by scarecrow
daniewicz
Well scarecrow, things have improved a little.... I had been using the "windows essential" codecs downloaded from the mplayer site. I have switched to using all-20050412.tar.bz2 instead. CNN.com continues to show video correctly. The improvement being that when I close the window spawned by the video playback firefox completely closes down instead of locking up. Of course closing this window shouldn't take firefox down completely... Still no luvin from the USAToday site.
scarecrow
Perhaps you should give the kaffeine/xine Mozilla plugin a try instead? Of course I know kaffeine is a KDE app, and not everybody uses KDE, while mplayer is "neutral"... Edited July 19, 2005 by scarecrow
