  1. neddie, You're welcome and thanks for your original post. That let me know I wasn't the only one having that issue. From now on, I'll wait a little bit before updating. Luckily, I knew just enough to use the command line to update. The very first time I've ever updated like that. Sunsela
  2. The following was found in another forum and may help someone else. Just found libfreetype6-2.1.10-9.3.20060mdk.i586.rpm on the update mirrors, and it seems to fix the problem. Looks like they backed out one of the patches the earlier package applied.
  3. The same issue is plaguing me. Yesterday, updates were installed also. startx won't go to a gui. The following is what shows up. ******************************************************************************** *** xauth: creating new authority file /home/user/.serverauth.4990 Module Loader present Markers: (--) probed, (**) from config file, (==) default setting, (++) from command line, (NI) not implement, (??) unknown. 4. daniewicz, I don't have a solution, but the same thing happens to me on CNN since they've changed from Quicktime or RealPlayer to Windows Media Player. Closing the window causes Firefox to crash every time. Sunsela
  5. pmpatrick, Thanks for your reply and assistance. Once Adobe Reader 7 was uninstalled, k3b opened without any problems. Reinstalling Adobe caused the same thing to happen. I use Adobe more than k3b so at this point they'll both be installed and I'll either run k3b as root or just deal with Adobe opening up four times and then k3b. From Mandrake Linux 9.0 to 10, everything has always worked fine on my system. Between 10.1 and LE2005, there have been little annoying problems like, no sound, this k3b/adobe issue, and clicking on links in Konqueror open Firefox. I don't know enough about Linux to do anything to cause these things to happen. Researching, posting to forums, and generally tracking down the solutions, workarounds, quick fixes etc... can be very time consuming and frustrating to say the least. It also cuts down on productivity. With the assistance of people like yourself, I am learning more about Linux. , , Sunsela
  6. pmpatrick, The error messages: libhal.c 644 : Error connecting to system bus: Failed to connect to socket /var/run/dbus/system_dbus_socket: No such file or directory k3b: ERROR: (K3bDevice::Device) Unable to do inquiry. k3b: ERROR: (K3bDevice::Device) Unable to do inquiry. What does this mean? If this pertains to HAL, since installation of LE2005 (recently), there have been FAILED messages when the computer is shutdown. Thanks, Sunsela
  7. Properties --> Application --> then what? What goes in each of the following? Description? Comment? Command? Work path? Support file types? Thanks, Sunsela P.S. Clicking Settings --> Configure k3b -->Programs --> Search path --> Search opens guess what? Adobe Reader
  8. Please be more specific. K3b right-click options DON'T include "configure". Neither does Adobe or any other icon on a LE2005 desktop. Thanks, Sunsela
  9. Hi, On LE2005 whenever the k3b(0.11.20-7) icon is clicked Adobe Reader opens. Clicking the "X" in the upper right corner of Adobe several times finally closes it and k3b opens. This is as a normal user and the same thing happens using the command line. There are no error messages. This does not happen as root. On Mandriva 10.1, kprinter would open when clicking on the k3b icon. What is causing this? Please, help me solve this. Thank you, Sunsela
  10. :woops: Where do I begin? This color-coded stuff can be bad sometimes. Green goes with green, right? Yeah, it does UNLESS you get ANOTHER soundcard that is not onboard. You guessed it. When hooking everything back up after separating the computers, I plugged the audio cable into the onboard place instead of down below where the other soundcard is. Guess you all know how I'm feeling right about now. :woops: Sunsela P.S. There is no sound for System Notifications or when booting up and shutting down. That's the way it was before and it's not important. Hopefully, that will be solved when I upgrade to LE2005
  11. ianw1974 Already tried this several times. There is no sound. modprobe.conf # --- BEGIN: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. --- # --- ALSACONF verion 1.0.6 --- options snd device_mode=0666 alias snd-card-0 snd-ens1371 alias sound-slot-0 snd-ens1371 # --- END: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. --- scarecrow This was already done. Thanks for your replies. Sunsela

Also, there's no sound on music cds, system notifications, or when “testing sound.” This issue just happened (last couple of weeks) when I separated the computers. AussieJohn, Tried everything you suggested to no avail. I'm still without sound. Thanks for your replys. What else can be done to solve this issue? Celeste
  13. Hi, Please help me solve a sound issue with Ensoniq CT 5880 on Mandriva 10.1 that did not exist before I removed a KVM to share a monitor, mouse, and keyboard. Also being used was an adapter to use one set of speakers for the two different computers. Initially, upon installing Mandriva 10.1 equaled no sound w/ VIA 82xx onboard audio. Hours of googling, posting, and fiddling around with things OPs suggested were all in vain. The solution, months ago, was purchasing a new sound card. I am a non-technical, non-geek girl, but I'm determined to get this issued solved once and for all WITHOUT buying another sound card. Where do I begin? Please help me. Celeste

    Thumbnails???

Hi, Just wanted to pass on some additional information that I've come across. These were created by browsing with konqueror in Icon View. Each image you see in this view mode makes a thumbnail. Use konqueror in Detailed list View mode to avoid caching them. Sunsela

mystified, Love your Ozzy quote. I have a keychain with the same exact thing on it. Haven't carried it in years, and now is the time I really should carry it. Sunsela
