greetiings there...

i was trying to configure KMail, i just need to use the yahoo acount for sending mails thru KMail.

i tried filling these fields...

Kontact>Settings>Configure Kmail

created a yahoo account in IDENTITY

In the NETWORK tab, for sending i filled these fields..

Add a account for sending

General Tab

Name:smtp.yahoo.com

Host:smtp.yahoo.com

port:25

Back in Sending Tab

Default Domain:yahoo.com

when i send a mail.. i get the following error...

Sending failed:

Connection to host smtp.mail.yahoo.com is broken

The message will stay in the 'outbox' folder until you either fix the problem (e.g. a broken address) or remove the message from the 'outbox' folder.

The following transport protocol was used:

smtp.mail.yahoo.com

help me configure yahoo's mail sending opption.

thanks,

rohit.

Are you using authenticated smtp? Yahoo states:

If you have set the "Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server" field in Yahoo! Mail to smtp.mail.yahoo.com, have set your client to use authenticated SMTP, and find that you can receive but cannot send messages, then you may need to use port 587 when sending via Yahoo!'s SMTP server.

Hi again ian :-)

i am not using any kinda authentication for sending...

also i have the yahoo's free account, so does it anyways provide sending the mails thru email clients?

i do not want to receive the mail, i mean after 1GB on web, who needs to download them!

so i am just wanting to set-up the sending part of it.

regards,

rohit.

You'll probably get an email from Yahoo later saying you need to upgrade to Yahoo Plus to use their SMTP service. The sending through an email client isn't allowed from what I remember for free, you have to subscribe to a service.

yup..ian is right

you have to subscribe to yahoo Premium service to get the pop account

but that not true for mail.yahoo.ca

if you have account from canada the pop mail service is free.

But why dont you use gmail account for Pop mail??? its a free account.....

If you have have an invitation, then tell me I can give you free invitation.

you have linux, then try to install postfix in you box, that would allow you to send email, if you ISP did not block port 25... basic guide here http://www.postfix.org/BASIC_CONFIGURATION_README.html

or maybe postfix is already running on your box, you just dont notice it, check

$netstat -an | grep tcp

if you'll see something like 0.0.0.0:25 then an mta or postfix is running in your box, just waiting to be configured.

btw, if you are using mandrake, postfix is the default mta or mail transfer agent, in Redhat or Fedora, its sendmail i think if im not wrong

edit:  you may try this http://yahoopops.sourceforge.net/index.php

You can send from specific email accounts, using an alternative SMTP server, and send as if you're using your Yahoo account.

You will have an SMTP server provided by your ISP. You will also have a username and password to utilise this SMTP server. All you need to do is configure an email account which will use the smtp server, but configure your email address so it is whatever@yahoo.com or whatever@yahoo.co.uk or whichever country specific Yahoo email address you have.

However, all your emails will be delivered to your Yahoo account, and you wouldn't be able to receive them over Yahoo POP unless you have a paid account with them like Yahoo Plus or whatever it's called.
