New Ati Drivers

I haven't seen this posted yet, sorry if I missed it somewhere in another thread.

Anyways ATI has not only released new drivers but have finally tried their hand at a new installer package aimed at helping those of us that are new to Linux. You can install them automatically like windows in an over the top approach or use the installer to create a package for your distro. The release notes can be found here,

http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/linux_8.14.13.html

the installer release notes here,

and the drivers and installer here,

Has anyone tried it yet? I'm curious as to what you think about the installer. Personally I welcome the ability to create your own packages. I'm not sure if the automatic approach is good for Linux since "overlaying" drivers in windows isn't 100% failsafe. I prefer to remove the old drivers and install the new ones "clean" every month.

I'm going to try it myself later this week with Mandriva 2005 le 64, once I can access the new version with kde 3.4. That way if something goes wrong I can simply do a clean install with the latest version. Seems the bittorrent links are broken this weekend for the club members...

*edit* it seems the board is bugged and logging out and back in fixed it so I could see the downloads once more now just waiting for the new 64 bit version with kde 3.4
