I just installed it for 2nd time and this time I whould like to know how to

set my modem and what to type to dial and what to type to disconnect.

Before I got pppup.tgz and followed a how to from www.linuxhelp.net

but I can't run ppp-up or ppp-down as user only root so can someone tell me

what to do without using pppup.tgz and how to dial as user?

My modem is compatible Is Genius 56K external serial port

and is it possible to tell what packages I need for xyz program without using linux?

This is my list so far of packages installed

locales, locales-es, procmail, postfix, mailx, msec, grub, basesystem, ppp,

xorg-x11, hdparm, eject, gnupg', groff, mtools, xorg-x11-server, Mesa,

alsa-utils, autofs, mozilla-firefox, numlock, urpmi.

How come there no man and man page in this mini mandrake?

Virtually all external serial modems are finely served with "kppp"- run it as root at the first time. The commandline "wvdial" should also be fine, if you prefer CLI over GUI.

Another fine modem dialer with GUI, which works under any X environment, and not just KDE, is xisp (I think it's not included in the standard Mandys, but you can easily find it and compile it).
