  1. I did download latest kopete and gaim and I still can't , during my linux only month july I think 2005 I wasn't able to use msn either and still can't after installing again linux to give it a another chance of bye windows XP, I always try to be with a update system even that now to update my linux side ( partition ) I need to download about 400mb of rpms in update. Well to resume I have gaim updated and still doesn't work.
  2. Hello to all I don't know why I can't get my msn messenger (Gaim and Kopete) to work I think I have sucessfully updated them I have a really old and not updated linux mandrake system but basically is because i'm a dial up user as I can't get adsl as we use a cell phone like devise to acess to the net here I don't might to download and wait the mdk update program GUI but my sister use windoze XP house edition and I use xp pro sharing my dial up , point is how can I do this on mdk 2005 limit Edition ? Can someone explain me step by step and if picture by picture. I have a router conected to my pc and tp my sister's pc and my pc connected to my 56k ext modem. Oh last thing my msn is quad95@msn.com and I belive that is not working in linux because is for only XP is this true? I mean that I should have a hotmail.com account and not a msn.com account. THX in advance hope this 2 problems have a solution.
  3. I'm not using linux now I'm using cygwin on windows and I was wondering and linux cli program can convert bmp or png to m1v ( mpeg1 vcd standard )? I whould like to have a cli program as I have to do lots and i want to speed up the making progress of vcds. I don't know if FFmpeg is any good to do this if it is let me know and if no I whould like to know is there any program that does the job that i need. Thanks I haven't removed linux yet [moved from Terminal Shell Commands, etc by spinynorman]
  4. Hello How do you unnistall mohaa (linux port beta 3 ) ? I just got a Genius wireless G-12ps gamepad in kde - josticks I see Padix Co. Ltd. Wireless 2.4Ghz Game Pad (/dev/js0) it works but i can't get it 100% fine is hard to calibrate it and I don't know why it say 7 axis while the 7th is nothing as i move every axis I can think of and I get no numbers moving up or down For everyone that doesn't know about my gamepad is a copy of Playstation 2 game pad is also compatible for ps2 and pc is a usb I forgot to say. In M$ window$ XP I know I could config as a custom one by telling how many axis and how many buttons , I didn't test it on windows i just say this from other gamepad this is my 3rd one I love psx gamepads. The point is can i set customly in linux? or how can't i fix this problem? thanks. Oh anyone has rott with 640 x 480 resolution and midi working on linux?

  7. Ok I'm a week on linux and I'm loving it I see no point on going back to windows but as I don't have the CD of my XP I have to leave C: the way it is so here you have : C: NTFS about 15GB this can't be remove so you have left 65GB ---------------------------- current setting is : C: NTFS 15GB D: FAT32 10 GB may be E: NTFS 30GB may be / Linux not sre /home Linux 3GB swap ( I have 512MB RAM ) anyway I have 80gb total so tell how whould set it. Oh I want C: untouched may be leave a fat32 to share with windows incase rest linux [moved from Installing Mandrake by spinynorman]
  8. I whould like to know how many ways is there to get latest updates? I will name some that I know or read of - mandrivas control center - update (nice way) - urpmi (mmm nice but need to learn more of it) - mandrake online (not the website but the software) (I don''t like I think is not free 1st u have to register with them an then u pay I think) - wget or download from web or ftp mirror - from CD-rom but not sure wher to get this I like the mcc gui way About backuping I hate it i don't have any good plans and mainly in M$ windows anyway what if I just worry about the files in /home ? I now /etc is for configurations but I'm thinking as user mainly I just worry about /home any ideas suggesting tell me. Oh also I plan to make a CD for all RPMs and I download including updates so that I don't need to redownload them. [moved from Installing Mandrake by spinynorman]
  9. I c , I also noticed there was missing lots of programs. Why are there so many options for user to change like file extentions , I always thinked that it was up to root to take care of it oh I'm using gnome. Wow 40MB for X updates I'm on 56k How can I avoid downloading it again all updates 1after updating via mdk control center?
  10. I finally got mandrake LE 2005 dvd with a linux magazine. But during my fight against Gnome's GUI pppd I found that there no mandrake documentation at the dvd or at /usr/share/doc/ there is some but not under mandrake dir and I feel that there is not enoought docs with the DVD may be is just me I think everything is online at mandrake but why ? Anyway ... How do you update linux apps for example firefox? If I have new version of it a my dvd in a folder of my magazine I just extract and install it without removing previous version? This question goes for not just this program but for all programs in genreal. I know that there is a GUI updater also I find my instalation of linux very easy to rrun and use with gnome is cool. oh and about programs I whould like to use an alternative to gaim i don't like it much so what minimal msn, icq u recomend? ... mmm i can't remember what else I need to ask
  11. before I had this problem I fixed it // I get this at the command line // $ --> Configuration does not speecify a valid phone number // $ --> Configuration does not speecify a valid user name // $ --> Configuration does not speecify a valid password // oh and it says that it does find the section of [Dialer defaults] at /etc/ppp/wvdialer.conf // I have made a wvdial.conf at /ect/ppp/ // and I have reso... file done with dns now I have this [root@localhost frodo]# wvdial --config /etc/ppp/wvdial.conf --> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.54.0 --> Initializing modem. --> Sending: ATZ ATZ OK --> Sending: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 OK --> Modem initialized. --> Sending: ATDT*99# --> Waiting for carrier. (exit code = 2) [root@localhost frodo]# Why I get cut or disconnected after? And how can I desable the modem sound?
  12. I just installed it for 2nd time and this time I whould like to know how to set my modem and what to type to dial and what to type to disconnect. Before I got pppup.tgz and followed a how to from www.linuxhelp.net but I can't run ppp-up or ppp-down as user only root so can someone tell me what to do without using pppup.tgz and how to dial as user? My modem is compatible Is Genius 56K external serial port and is it possible to tell what packages I need for xyz program without using linux? This is my list so far of packages installed locales, locales-es, procmail, postfix, mailx, msec, grub, basesystem, ppp, xorg-x11, hdparm, eject, gnupg', groff, mtools, xorg-x11-server, Mesa, alsa-utils, autofs, mozilla-firefox, numlock, urpmi.
