Guest adamsjw2
Greetings, My boss wants a company intranet but she doesn't want to pay for another license of Win2K server. Also, I don't care for IIS. Since I've become enamoured with Mandrake 9.0 over the past few months, and php, I thought I could possibly add a Linux box with Apache to my existing network. This box wouldn't be a domain controller, but simply another machine on the network to which users could point their browsers. Our network uses Win2k server with Active Directory. If this is successful then I think I can convince her to migrate many of our desktops from Win98 to MDK 9.0 over the next few months. In insight and help greatly appreciated Jim Adams Maysville KY
MottS
HI What you are trying to do is I believe easy. Once MDK 9 in installed then open rpmdrake and search for Apache. Install it and modify /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf and /etc/httpd/conf/commonhttpd.con according to your needs. Notice that the default configuration works well and you should not need to modify those 2 files really. All the http files goes to /var/www/html and the log files are in /var/log/httpd. You'll have to access your server with http://serverIP. If you want to access your server with a DNS then you should look at www.noip.com . Good luck ! Guest adamsjw2
Motts, thanks for your quick reply. Will I need to use Samba to make the machine a part of the network or is that simply for browsing/sharing files in a mixed enviroment? Thanks, Jim

It has nothing to do with Apache. MOttS
