But now that I am trying to install a system devoid of KDE, I have no sound. all the sound services are running, and it appears to find the appropriate modules at boot. also the soundcard is using the proper driver. mtweidmann Posted January 21, 2003 Report Share Posted January 21, 2003 What apps have you tried running? Apps like xmms & xine can use a range of drivers, eg OSS, ALSA, arts, etc... If you've not installed KDE then you can't use arts. So make sure the driver is set to either OSS or ALSA (depending on what your using). If that fails, keep an eye on the text that scrolls up the screen during boot up. At some point it should say starting ALSA. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

ezroller Posted January 21, 2003 Author Report Share Posted January 21, 2003 ok, i fixed it. i got rid of this line in my /etc/modules.conf above snd-emu10k1 snd-pcm-oss and changed the next line to just: alias sound emu10k1 thank god it works.
