Kppp cares about resolv.conf?

Went to logon to 'net yesterday and (Kppp) modem dialed - but no connect.............. hmmm........what's changed. Oh, I reformatted PC 2 HD in my two PC network (LAN using crossover), and therefore no LAN connection exists.

Question....why would Kppp care if that LAN connection no longer exists?

And..... why did I have to comment out the first line in my resolv.conf for the connection to work. I received a "pppdaemon died" error message if not. I thought that this file only affected browsers. If Kppp uses this file, wouldn't it just move on to the nameservers once it couldn't find "home" ?

[****@mybox1 etc]$ cat resolv.conf

# search home <----- this line was previously uncommented

# search home.com

nameserver 209.244.0.3

nameserver 209.244.0.4

tryin' to learn

thanks
