Cannonfodder
Does anybody know how to get rid of the cursor shadowing? I'm not even sure how I got it in the first place. I am running NVIDIA drivers (installed again last week) and tried running this config program where I specified no cursor shadowing, but it didn't work. Any ideas? bvc
edit /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 from /usr/share/doc/NVIDIA_GLX-1.0/README Option "CursorShadow" "boolean" Enable or disable use of a shadow with the hardware accelerated cursor; this is a black translucent replica of your cursor shape at a given offset from the real cursor. This option is only available on GeForce2 or better hardware (ie everything but TNT/TNT2, GeForce 256, GeForce DDR and Quadro). Default: no cursor shadow. Option "CursorShadowAlpha" "integer" The alpha value to use for the cursor shadow; only applicable if CursorShadow is enabled. This value must be in the range [0, 255] -- 0 is completely transparent; 255 is completely opaque. Default: 64. Option "CursorShadowXOffset" "integer" The offset, in pixels, that the shadow image will be shifted to the right from the real cursor image; only applicable if CursorShadow is enabled. This value must be in the range [0, 32]. Default: 4. Option "CursorShadowYOffset" "integer" The offset, in pixels, that the shadow image will be shifted down from the real cursor image; only applicable if CursorShadow is enabled. This value must be in the range [0, 32]. Default:
Cannonfodder
Actually I was using NVOption, gonna look for yanc though.. The docs above said my cursor shadowing shouldn't be valid for GeoForce 256 whifch is what I have... lets see if I can fix it..
Guest anon
Sort of related, the 9.1 beta with kde rcxx has cursor shadowing, don't like it, can't turn it off either......yet
Cannonfodder
I'm using 9 with gnome.. not sure its a desktop manager issue.. I can't turn it off though. I've tried a yanc, I've tried both software and hardware cursors, tried editing the XF86Config-4 file to put in a specific Option "CursorShadowing" "0" command even though the docs say it is not supported, just gets ignored. This is pretty annoying as I find it hard to see the cursor. Did my googling too but nothing so far.. It wasn't there initially, somehow it slipped in. bvc
try CursorShadow instead of CursorShadowing (unless post was a typo), and try off instead of 0. Or # it out.
Cannonfodder
It was a typo. I did try the off but it didn't make a difference. I've also removed the entry. Pretty much being ignored anyways. I k?ow my changes are being processed as I can turn on/off the NVIDIA logo. You should see what the I bar looks like with a shadow. Someone's "Great" idea of 3d cursor's but the result looks like a fuzzy I bar. Shouldn't of released it
ezroller
I think this cursor shadowing is the shit!!! buty I was getting tired of that black pointer and no way to change it. I'm using that cooker release of XFree86 that they have on rpmfind.
bvc
and no way to change itDOlson has had a tut for a long time on changing the cursor. I had a cool arrowhead shaped yellow/red/black one in ML8.1. Been too lazy in 9.0 to change it though  I like the CursorShadow to. Does the XFree86 cooker version have the new alpha real transparency enabled? (not transucency). I heard the next release was going to. :)
ezroller
I honestly couldn't tell you what kind of transparency it has, but it looks sweet. and I guess its time to dig up that tutorial of his.
Guest dbezona
Do you, perchance, have the new beta X server installed? (XFree86 4.2.99) The transparent, shadowed cursor is new, and on by default. If you want it to go away, edit: /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/icons/default/index.theme The line that says Inherits=<whatever> simply change it to either: Inherits=default or Inherits= Restart X and you should have the old plain cursors back. ezroller
yup thats the version I'm running. I haven't had a single hickup from it. even if it is a beta release.
Guest dbezona
It has been rock solid for me as well - and I think the new cursors are rather cool. Hopefully they document the new cursors feature well in the final 4.3 release - a README, or a solid FAQ item though since it seems to be a love it or hate it sort of thing. They expect to have some improved cursor themes for the 4.3 release as well, which should be interesting.
