KDE used to come with its own sound server - aRTS. you may want to try it.

 

Also, is the old fashion sndconfig still there? You may need to install it via urpmi though, it's the RedHat (or used to be RedHat) config tool for sound cards.

Ok got it to work. Reformated drive, Reinstalled Linux, Upgraded kernal, ran alsaconf,

 

 

I have sound and my dvds play..

 

in the sond conf you have 2 buttons Test sound and Test Midi....

 

I heard sound with TEST SOUND

 

BUT NO MIDI with TEST MIDI..

 

Any ideas on this??

 

Aslo to hear a music CD do I have to have the CD player connected to sound card??

 

because mine goes thorugh mother board

I don't hear anything with Test MIDI either, but I don't listen to MIDI much, so isn't a real problem for me!

 

Everything works fine, so you can leave this one, unless you have a real need for it!

 

And the CD player, would have to be connected to the soundcard, and not the motherboard. The one on the motherboard is usually for a soundcard built-in to the motherboard.
