Booting with hard disk detection disabled

Hi,

My harddisk has corrupt sectors that prevent the system booting. I'd like to try and boot off CD so that I can use the usb to retrieve the vital files.

However, when I try to boot with Move it just hangs, entering the rescue mode doesn't help either as it never actually returns a prompt that will allow me to progress.

Any ideas how to disable the harddisk detection so that either way of booting will continue ?

Thanks

Disable the boot in the bios. Make the choice cdrom only. Do not disable the hard drive, just its selection as a boot device.
