coverup
As the title suggested, I use the Linuxant driverloader+wpa supplicant to connect my wireless card (Intel 2100 3B W/Pro) to a Dlink DI724P+ wireless router. The card connects seemlessly. However, once in a while the card loses connection, and I cannot restore the connection, other than going through a full restart. After the network connection is lost, shutting down eth1 does not seem to be a problem. But the attempt to restore the connection by running ifup eth1 hangs the network. I can see that wpa supplicant is running, however ifup eth1 never finishes, I can't even interrupt it with Ctrl+C. In fact, each and every network related script hangs, I can't even restart normally, 'cause halt/shutdown runs service network stop , which hangs... /var/log/messages does not contain anything at all that could shed some light on what's going on... Interestingly, while connected, I can run bring eth1 up and down as many times as I like, everything works... Does anybody have any suggestions / can point out what could be the problem? devries
Can you do when this happens from a console, as root: service network status? If it is running service network restart? If it is stopped service network start? Else check the status in the Mandrake Control Center, System, Services.
Qchem
If you purchased driverloader from linuxant you should be able to get support from them :D

Else check the status in the Mandrake Control Center, System, Services. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You'll be laughing but that happened again, while I was typing in the reply Anyway, I tried what you suggested.. service network status shows that eth1 is configured and active. service network restart was able to bring eth1 down, and hung trying to bring it up. MCC showed that network is stopped, and hung after i hit the start button. Meantime, i found something interesting in the logs: Mar 11 19:25:03 myhost kernel: NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth1: transmit timed out Mar 11 19:25:35 myhost last message repeated 8 times Mar 11 19:26:39 myhost last message repeated 16 times Mar 11 19:26:59 myhost last message repeated 5 times Mar 11 19:26:59 myhost kernel: netndis_xmitcomplete_handler: err -5 Mar 11 19:26:59 myhost last message repeated 99 times Mar 11 19:26:59 myhost network: Shutting down interface eth1: succeeded Mar 11 19:27:00 myhost network: Shutting down loopback interface: succeeded Mar 11 19:27:03 myhost network: Setting network parameters: succeeded Mar 11 19:27:03 myhost network: Bringing up loopback interface: succeeded Mar 11 19:27:04 myhost kernel: driverloader: ndisSetInformation: 802_11_AUTHENTI CATION_MODE st=FAILURE W=0 N=0 Mar 11 19:27:04 myhost kernel: eth1: Error -5 setting authentication mode Mar 11 19:27:04 myhost kernel: driverloader: ndisSetInformation: GEN_CURRENT_PAC KET_FILTER st=FAILURE W=0 N=0 Mar 11 19:27:04 myhost kernel: eth1: Error -5 enabling MAC port Mar 11 19:27:04 myhost kernel: eth1: Error -5 configuring card Mar 11 19:27:05 myhost kernel: driverloader: ndisWrapCheckForHangTimerFunc_stk: PCI-0000:02:02.0-8086:1043-8086:2551 hung, resetting Mar 11 19:27:09 myhost last message repeated 2 times Mar 11 19:27:18 myhost kernel: eth1: New link status: Disconnected (0002) Then after restart, again Mar 11 19:50:55 myhost kernel: NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth1: transmit timed out Mar 11 19:51:27 myhost last message repeated 8 times Mar 11 19:52:31 myhost last message repeated 16 times Mar 11 19:52:43 myhost last message repeated 3 times Mar 11 19:52:44 myhost su(pam_unix)[3449]: session opened for user root by (uid= 501) Mar 11 19:52:47 myhost kernel: NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth1: transmit timed out Mar 11 19:53:19 myhost last message repeated 8 times Mar 11 19:54:23 myhost last message repeated 16 times Mar 11 19:54:43 myhost last message repeated 5 times Can anybody explain this? devries
I'm not all that familiar with this but I think it means that the driverloader module is causing problems. :). Try unloading it with (as root) modprobe -r driverloader and load it again with modprobe driverloader. (it would explain why a reboot solves the problem. The module is 'reset')
coverup
The problem is fixed... Reinstalling driverloader and Windows drivers (the advice from linuxant), did not have any effect, but turning the router upright has immediately fixed the problem . Meantime, on my quest for a better signal, I found a great advice on how to buid an unidirectional antenna (more precisely, cantenna) http://www.freeantennas.com/prod01.htm . I have built one such device a half an hour ago using a can of coke, but beer cans should do as well... This cantenna works!
