I_NEED_HELP
I could use a little help with samba. I have two computers one running XP and one running UBUNTU and the windows xp computer has a hardrive called D: which has a folder for music which i wish to share with the ubuntu pc. I have installed SAMBA and have edited smb.conf to hjave the right workgroup name. I have added a samba user using sudo smbpasswd -a graham Now how do add the windows drive to be able to share it this is where i come unstuck as ill my samba experience has been sharing a linux folder with a windows machine. I have looked for how to do this but without to much success i have tried using the line: mount -t smbfs -o username=graham, password=xxxxxxxx //grahams-desktop/music /media/music Linux can see my windows PC as i tried using smbclient -L grahams-desktop However what would the network password be as i have no password in windows. One final question what ports do samba use to make sure my router has those ports open.
Steve Scrimpshire
Try browsing for it using LinNeighborhood or smb4k I doubt there will be a password if you have no windows password. The port question, I don't know.

Qchem
Samba (and of course smb) uses ports 137, 138, 139, and 445.
