Aggravating Gimp troubles

Ok, I had gimp installed from original install and it worked fine. I wanted to get my Mustek scanner to work so I had to install Xsane and sane, so I had to update gimp, libgimp, etc in order to do so. Then Gimp hung at the opening splash screen at 'extension_script_fu' , so I moved that plugin to my ~/.gimp1.2/plug-in/ directory and back to the original place and then gimp fully loaded, but every time I tried to open a file, it told me whatever plugin was needed died. So, to make a long story short (yeah, right), I had to uninstall Gimp. Trying to reinstall, I get the following aggravating debate between me and the shell:

[root@omar tmp]# urpmi gimp

installing /var/cache/urpmi/rpms/gimp-1.2.2-6mdk.i586.rpm

error: failed dependencies:

       libgck-1.2.so.1   is needed by gimp-1.2.2-6mdk

       libgimp-1.2.so.1   is needed by gimp-1.2.2-6mdk

       libgimpui-1.2.so.1   is needed by gimp-1.2.2-6mdk

[root@omar tmp]# slocate -u -c

[root@omar tmp]# urpmf libgck-1.2.so.1

libgimp1.2_1:/usr/lib/libgck-1.2.so.1

libgimp1.2_1:/usr/lib/libgck-1.2.so.1.0.1

[root@omar tmp]# rpm -qa | grep libgimp

libgimp1.2_1-1.2.3-17mdk

libgimp1.2_1-devel-1.2.3-17mdk

libgimpprint1-4.1.99-16mdk

[root@omar tmp]# urpmf libgimp-1.2.so.1

libgimp1.2_1:/usr/lib/libgimp-1.2.so.1

libgimp1.2_1:/usr/lib/libgimp-1.2.so.1.0.1

[root@omar tmp]# urpmf libgimpui-1.2.so.1

libgimp1.2_1:/usr/lib/libgimpui-1.2.so.1

libgimp1.2_1:/usr/lib/libgimpui-1.2.so.1.0.1

[root@omar tmp]# locate libgim

<snip>

/usr/lib/libgimpui-1.2.so.0

/usr/lib/libgimp-1.2.so.0.0.3

<snip>

[root@omar tmp]# locate libgimpui-1.2.so.1

[root@omar tmp]# locate libgimpui

/usr/lib/libgimpui-1.2.so.0

/usr/lib/libgimpui.la

/usr/lib/libgimpui.so

/usr/lib/libgimpui.a

/usr/lib/libgimpui-1.2.so.0.0.3

I've tried to uninstall things and reinstall, but some of them want me to uninstall sane-front-ends, which I am afraid to do because I had to tweak it to get it to recognize my scanner. Is that my only hope or can someone suggest another route? TIA

Is this 9.0? Looks to me like your downgrading.

{bvc9 02:35 AM bvc9}>rpm -qa | grep gimp

gimpprint-4.2.2-2mdk

we both have

libgimp1.2_1-1.2.3-17mdk

but my default gimp is

gimp-1.2.3-17mdk

and you're trying to install

gimp-1.2.2-6mdk

Also, it's saying you need

libgimpui-1.2.so.1

and though urpmf showsit to be available, locate doesn't show it to be there...you and I have a newer

libgimpui-1.2.so.0.0.3

What do you get with

rpm -qa | grep gimp

or, if the one you're trying to install (gimp-1.2.2-6mdk) is in your sources do

urpmq -d -c -r gimp-1.2.2-6mdk

to get deps list
