I didn't mention that ppl were always installing usr's drivers and having problems getting them to work because that's the past. Now, since the 2.6 kernel, it seems ppl have trouble even getting the 5686 to work. The easiest, most basic modem setup known to man. I didn't know if drivers from usr were necessary or not.

 

It's the reason I bought the 5686 actually because as Gowator says the driver is built in to the kernel so all you do (or did) is point the dialer to either /dev/ttyS0 (COM1) or /dev/ttyS1 (COM2).

 

oh, setserial should not be necessary

 

usb is another story and will need drivers (as far as I know)
