eth0 driver problem

Under Mandrake 9.1 ,I was able to connect to the internet after I changed the Tulip driver to dmfe for my Davicom on board adapter.I did this by modifying the modules.conf file.

I installed Mandrake 10, could not upgrade for some reason ,and again eth0 failed with the Tulip driver.

I modified the modules.conf file, to alias eth0 dmfe ,but could not connect after restart.

I check the network connection in the Mandrake control center and the eth0 driver is still listed as using the Tulip Module.

Any idea why modifying the modules.conf file would work for 9.1 but not ver 10?
