arctic
i cant edit my /etc/fstab file. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ???? are you sure you are trying to do this as root and not as normal user?
Guest LordBrit
I dont have a root account i somehow managed to Merge my root and admin account together meaning he can acess most files, but win_c and etc/fstab arent ones of them Edited December 13, 2004 by LordBrit
arctic
just a second:... if you installed mandrake, you DO have a root account. open e.g. a terminal and type "su", then you will be asked for the root password. so there must be root every linux-distro either has root or sudo commands (or both). the only exception i can imagine are linux-boxes that are completely custom built (= from scratch) and lack such feature due to bad planning. and you should NEVER give normal users root powers. it will irreparably ruin your system sooner or later. ;)

Guest LordBrit
isint there someway i can edit files threw the su command in root or even add my root acct?
arctic
as long as there is the su command, there is root. but to be honest... i should tell you to reinstall your system from scratch due to security and as a learning lesson. if you can still type "su" and then perform tasks with root access, simply start an editor like kedit, kwrite or gedit as su. then open the /etc/fstab file and modify it. if that does not work, i guess you ruined your system in a marvelous way.
