phunni
OK - so Solaris isn't strictly another Linux distro and nor is the windows box I work from - but you get what I'm trying to say... I'm currently using putty to remotely connect to our Solaris server. It all seems very comfortable and Unix like - just like using the clie at home on my linux box. Except that I can't use tab completion. Is this possible using putty? Does the fact that I'm connecting to Solaris casue any complications? SoulSe
I used to use Putty to connect to Linux boxes and tab completion worked just fine... I don't know anything about Solaris, but I'd imagine it should be the same.
fissy
sounds like the fault of the solaris shell, not putty. do you know which shell you have?
ramfree17
most probably phunni is using sh or ksh. im using bash on our solaris server and i can also use the completion functionality of bash just fine. ciao!
phunni
turns out I am using sh - how can I change this to bash?
ramfree17
assuming you do have bash on that server, either have your administrator change your default shell (i think you can get away with editing the passwd for this or use usermod for a 'cleaner' operation) or invoke bash whenever you need it. ciao!
