In-depth review of Mandrakelinux 10.1 OE

Recommended Posts

Try ctrl-alt-+ or ctrl-alt-- (minus), repeatedly. This goes through the various refreshrates and resolutions, at least one of which is usually 60 Hz.

Once your screen is working, adjust proper monitor settings.

Alternatively, you could hit ctrl-alt-F1, login as root, edit /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 and put the proper info for your monitor. You'd need some command line experience for that, and vi experience (not for the uninitiated).

I know this is not a discussion of your review but a request for help but I hope you can help resolve my problem. I have recently replaced my aging CRT monitor with an LED Daewoo HL711S. My Mandrake 10.1 Community will not display on this although Windows XP and Libranet (my OS are separately tray mounted) display perfectly. All I get is an error message 'Out of Frequency 65.5Khz to 80.5hz' . I am told this means that I need to change the refresh rate. The screen shot in your paragraph headed ISSUES is very fuzzy and hard to read on my machine but seems to be headed 'Config Display' and to contain an option for changing the refresh rate. I have searched the various 'System', 'Configuration', 'KDE' etc menu entries but cannot find 'Config Display'. I haven't been able to do this very systematically because I can only display Mandrake by taking my tower to my supplier and trespassing on his generosity. As you probably realise I am far from being an experienced Linux user. Grateful for help before I change my screen name to 'Desperate'.

You will get more responses if you post a new thread and use a descriptive title.

Do you know how to run MCC (Mandrake Control Center)?

From MCC-> Hardware-> Change the screen resolution
