I have (2) hard drives.

The first is a MS Windows 98SE - This drive boots first

The second drive is for Mandrake 10.1 to be installed on.

During the install of Mandrake on the 2nd drive, I choose

'Custom Partition'

I continue the instsall, but Im never prompted to install the 'MBR'

on the boot drive.

Im simply trying to set this up so that when I boot my PC, Im

prompted with a menu to choose which hard drive to boot up.

Im a Mandrake newbie so please be as clear as possible - Thanks!

I have noticed that in 10.0 and maybe in 10.1 too the installer skips bootloader installation on some occasions.

At the end of the installation, you get the summary.

Go through the bootloader setup once there, that will for sure place the bootloader in the mbr - just go for the defaults.

I went thru the install twice...I didnt see any options or defaults that mention the MBR.

What is meant by 'Go Through The Bootloader setup once there'?

Could I get some more details on the steps to go thru?

Thanks!

If you look at the Mandrake Install screen, you will see a list on the left side. This is the list of installation steps. Down near the bottom of the list, is the Install Bootloader entry. This is where options for installing are presented to you (or Supposed to be).

The MBR is the Master Boot Record, which resides on hda (where win98 is installed). I use System Commander Personal Edition for my bootloader/manager, so I don't ned to attempt to rescue Mandrake Linux if I have to reinstall win98se and/or Win2000pro. Windows likes to own the MBR.
