You should take a look if you want to have Doom III run faster on Linux.
zero0w
To Doom III Linux gamers: You can now upgrade to the latest nVidia driver 1.0-6629, which will provide some nice performance improvement. It worths it.
SoulSe
I'm going to so this all in the hopes it works, because Doom 3 is crappy running natively so far. I ran MUCH better under Cedega on my system, and it shouldn't be that way.
DOlson
If you haven't reported this as a bug already, maybe you should... The dude who ported the game is in #icculus.org on freenode somethimes.

All I can say is, 'It ran faster and more smoothly in Cedega.' And that's about it. The game is working in Linux, and working "well" - it's just slow and choppy and I have to run it at a lower resolution.
DOlson
Sounds like a bug to me.
zero0w
The weird thing is the latest nVidia driver provides a very nice 15-40% performance improvement on GeForce 5 or 6 series. So, it could be a driver issue here.
DOlson
I'm not sure it could be related to the driver, since the same game works just fine in WineX. Yes, I still call it WineX. SoulSe, I'm not that familiar with the game, but does it use Direct3D or OpenGL in Windows/WineX? Also, could you test them both out with the sound disabled? It could be the something relating to sound support built into the Linux client.
