arctic
hi ho. i was asked to set up a mandrake box for my brother (he finally got rid of winxp). he still has a dsl connection with aol (will switch later on to other provider) and my simple question is: are there any "special things" i have to take care of when setting up his network connection? or is it as painless as most dsl-connections being set up? please answer fast, as i have only some hours left before i have to drive to his home. arctic
okay, i installed mandy on the crappy box. install was nearly painless (mouse adapter was driving me nuts, but thing got fixed) but there is still a problem left. networking does not work the way it is expected. the realtek eth0 device is detected, the ip and password from the isp are also in place. i configured the adsl-connection as a pppoe network and ifup eth0 was successful. ifconfig eth0 showed that the ip 127.0.0.1 was working and shipping files. some data from ifconfig: HW adress: 00:30:84:79:53:6F Inetadress: 127.0.0.1 Dcast 127.0.0.225 Inet6adress: fe80: :230:84ff:fe79:536f/64 MTU: 1500 Metric: 1 RX 820, TX 1252 RX Bytes: 52878 (51,6 kb) TX Bytes: 98583 (96,2 kb) Interrupt 11; Basisadress 0x1000 icfg-eth0: Device=eth0 BOOTPROTO=dhcp onboot=yes MII_not_supported=no DHCP_HOSTNAME=127.0.0.1 NEEDHOSTNAME=yes packages are sent outward, but it seems that i wasn't able to get some packages back. the browser loaded for some minutes e.g. on google and then it gave out the message that the webpage could not be loaded. any ideas how to solve this puzzle?
