Guest karthikravi
HI, I'm new to this forum. I recently installed Fedora core 2 because i couldn't get my hands on MDK 10. So the pblm i'm facing now is that I have an broadband cnnection at home. In windows i connect thru the dialer provided by my ISP, but for linux they have not provided any dialer. So i'm using a Realtek 8139 card. Is there any way i could connect t my ISP thru linux as this is a bradband connection and not a Dialup. Please help as i find brwsing in Linux ectremelyu fast and easy. Can anyone help me?
Peppercorn
More information please. Does your realtek card hook up to a router/adsl modem??? If so, what type is it?? The chances are that you can do what you want to but you hav'nt made it very clear. As far as I know, you need to plug the Realtek 8129 into a router or modem of some kind before you can access the net. If so, what do you have? thinkliberty
What ISP are you using? there is most likely a linux how-to. The realtek 8139 is an ethernet card which means you most likely will have to use pppoe to connect to your ISP. Have you thought about buying a cheap linksys or dlink router to do this for you? It will also protect you from portscans from people looking to do other nasty things to you out there on the net. If supported by your ISP would allow you to use dhcp to connect to your router, which connects to your dsl modem.
