Problem with installation

Hi everyone, just found this board cause I can not find an answer for my problem, sure hope someone can help.

I have a machine that was running Mandrake 9. I removed the HD and installed a new 40gig drive. Went through the normal installation fine and then reboot. Upon the first boot I get to the Manrake 9 loading screen. Get to Findind Module Dependencies and the system freezes. I can not use keyboard or even the reset button on my computer.

Steps I have already taken:

Changed boot devices from CD to no CD boot and kept install CD in drive

Redownloaded ISO's and reburned them, same problem

Tried a different 40gig drive

For some reason nothing I seem to do can fix my problem. Any help would be great.

Sure thing...

Asus A7N266

AMD Athlon 1.4ghz (1600)

256 PC2100 RAM

40gig WD 7200rpm HD

Microsoft Intellimouse USB

Standard Keyboard

3-Com NIC since the on-board NIC will not recognize :(

Memorex 48x CDROM

Anything else?

First question: have you turned off the on-board NIC in the bios? Mandrake will continue to try to find it if you do not turn it off.

Also, I recall a problem with WD harddrives and Mandrake. Try a search on that subject. I'll try as well and check back.
