System hangs on shutdown, suspend, hibernate

Hello, I am currently running Mandrake 10.0 CE on a vpr matrix 220A5 (2.2ghz P4, 512 RAM). I installed and configured the OS without a hitch, however one lingering problem remains. The system hangs whenever I attempt to shutdown, reboot, suspend, or hibernate the system. It doesn't hang at a consistant shutdown message each time, however, it hangs on "Sending all processes the TERM signal" more often than others. I have a feeling that this might be due to ACPI power management, but I can't be sure.

I installed and am running the ACPI modules, and have "acpi=on apm=off" in my lilo.conf file.

This problem is becoming very frustrating, and I appreciate any help you can provide! I can supply any information you might need.

Thank you.

Thanks, I tried those, but it still does not work... However, I noticed I can occasionally get it to restart if i shut down the Xserver first. But that does not assure that it will work.

Thank you for your help.
