kenton
Here's my output from configure your computer -> hardware -> sound card Vendor: Silicon Integrated Systems [siS] Alternative drivers: ali5455:i810_audio:nvaudio Bus: PCI Bus identification: 1039:7012:1849:7012 Location on the bus: 0:2:7 Description: SiS7012 PCI Audio Accelerator Module: snd-intel8x0 Media class: MULTIMEDIA_AUDIO First off, it's incorrectly detecting the module currently used, it's using OSS "i810_audio", the default is snd-intel8x0. I got some speakers today and when I plugged them in I got a huge WHINE out of all speakers. I rebooted and as soon as ALSA was loaded it did it again, so I switched to this OSS driver, but I don't get sounds in KDE, I get sound through XMMS but I cannot adjust the voltume which is VERY important. Can anyone help?

kenton
Oh, here's some more notes. I'm using the latest version of XMMS compled from source (something dot something dot 10) and XMMS + KDE are both being instructed to use the OSS output. devries
Install the XMMS arts plugin. It's in PLF I think. (change the ouput in XMMS preferences to arts plugin) Good luck
kenton
K... aRts controls volume pretty decently, but now XMMS is slow to play songs, it takes a couple of seconds for them to load. What's up?
devries
That's the buffer. Go to the kde control center, sound and multimedia, soundsystem and use the slide to adjust the buffer setting :)
mte
I have the the opposite problem. I have a nforce2 chip (realtek sound card onboard) and another pci audio card from terratec. I didn't get the official nvidia driver because before i reinstalled mandrake 10.0 again it didn't work - in fact it did much problems to me. Well - now I can listen to music in xmms with alsa driver pointing to the nvidia card. But I CAN'T hear anything in any other program and Kmix crashes every time I try to start it. I have Autodetect set in kde control center. Any idea? thanks, Matej PS Where can I choose the default sound output for apps that don't have this type of configuration?
