Melekor
Just installed Mandrake 10.0, second time on a IBM thinkpad A22m, well to make a long story short, evertime I make a change to a network device, ie change an IP, or set it to DHCP ect, hit apply then ok and boom, nothing works anymore machine does not lock up so to speak but cant open a term session, or any app they all error out or just 'Time Out', a Ctrl/Alt/Backspace restarting X will fix this, but I mean is this windows 98??? Thanks,
Ixthusdan
No, it is not windex. In windex if you lose the gui, you're done. As you have already observed, the gui in linux is just a process. The os is still functioning fine. When you change network definitions, rebooting x is recommended to avoid problems. As you have found, there can be problems. Again, nothing like windex. To avoid this, make changes by doing an init3 in a console, and then init5 when done.
