Guest Kaladon
OK, i will have my linux hopefully tomarrow. I have a question about setting up the modem manually, just in case. First off its NOT a winmodem... its a us robotics 56k fax pci. I was wondering when you set up the modem manually, and you pick a com port you will select /dev/ttys0 for com 1 /dev/ttys1 for com 2 and so on from the dialog menu. (if using GUI) Anyways on http://www.trylinuxsd.com i looked at a mandrake 9.0 demonstration , however on the demo it only went up to /dev/ttys2 for com 3. My modem is currently running on com 5, which should be /dev/ttys4 right? Will mandrake see my com 5, so that i can select it? or will i need to switch it to a com 3 slot (maximum)? bvc
The graphical connectivity programs only go to ttyS3. Yes, /dev/ttyS4. But, if there's a /dev/modem (symlink), you can either edit the symlink with a file mgr, or delete it and create a new that points to /dev/ttyS4, and tell the program to use /dev/modem. I never had a problem with this, but some have. Hopefully, you won't. The kernel will see it but the connect programs are limited (for some dumb reason). http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php...1463&highlight=
