Guest caslca
I mean really, i have an ATI Mobility Radeon 16mb agp card on my laptop and in XF86config-4 it says to load module "radeon" for my card so i assume the config is OK. Problem is, in KDE i experience some artifacts (common for software accel - not hardware) like parts of scroll bars or parts of labels etc. I can make them go away by making the window repaint itself, but i'm thinking that i might not be running a hardware accelerated module for my card. So how can i test if i really have hardware acceleration enabled?
bvc
In a terminal type xdpyinfo and look in the extensions section for Render. Or/and, su as root and type glxgears -info and look for GL_EXT_xxx??'s
SoulSe
Or just type: # glxinfo |less and look for a line that says Direct Rendering: Yes or No BTW: I am currently having problems with the same card, please run glxgears and tell me what happens? Guest caslca
ok, this is what i get from xdpyinfo: BIG-REQUESTS DOUBLE-BUFFER DPMS Extended-Visual-Information FontCache GLX LBX MIT-SCREEN-SAVER MIT-SHM MIT-SUNDRY-NONSTANDARD RENDER SECURITY SGI-GLX SHAPE SYNC TOG-CUP XC-APPGROUP XC-MISC XFree86-Bigfont XFree86-DGA XFree86-DRI XFree86-Misc XFree86-VidModeExtension XInputExtension XKEYBOARD XTEST XVideo glxgears -info gives: GL_EXTENSIONS = GL_ARB_multitexture GL_ARB_transpose_matrix GL_EXT_abgr GL_EXT_blend_func_separate GL_EXT_clip_volume_hint GL_EXT_compiled_vertex_array GL_EXT_histogram GL_EXT_packed_pixels GL_EXT_polygon_offset GL_EXT_rescale_normal GL_EXT_stencil_wrap GL_EXT_texture3D GL_EXT_texture_env_add GL_EXT_texture_env_combine GL_EXT_texture_env_dot3 GL_EXT_texture_object GL_EXT_texture_lod_bias GL_EXT_vertex_array GL_MESA_window_pos GL_MESA_resize_buffers GL_NV_texgen_reflection GL_PGI_misc_hints GL_SGIS_pixel_texture GL_SGIS_texture_edge_clamp and glxinfo gives: name of display: :0.0 display: :0 screen: 0 direct rendering: Yes server glx vendor string: SGI server glx version string: 1.2 server glx extensions: GLX_EXT_visual_info, GLX_EXT_visual_rating, GLX_EXT_import_context client glx vendor string: SGI so i guess config is ok and it seems to be using HW acceleration. But problem remains... Like when i closed glxgears' window, artifacts remained on mozilla.... My long shot is that KDE is not configured/capable for HW acceleration. any suggestions? ral
Me, I just run Tux racer. If it flies, means everything is okay. If the mouse crawls accross the screen... well than that means that I don't have graphics acceleration working well :D "My long shot is that KDE is not configured/capable for HW acceleration." Doubt it, RTCW, Quake II and Tuxracer run fine on my ML9 running a KDE desktop.
bvc
Me, I just run Tux racer. If it flies, means everything is okay. lol  I don't need to do anything, I can tell when X starts, but I run tuxracer to be sure as well. Kde, should in no way have anything to do with it. If you want to be sure, try another .
