I am very close to buy a new harddrive to install mandrake 10 on and then use my "old" harddrive in this to prevent data loss. Does that sound as a stupid idea ? (i am not buying the harddrive just because of these problems, but i need storage space, this situation has just made consider to buy an extra harddrive earlier than planned). I think that the new harddrive will be the safest and fastest solution. Do you agree ? nope, sorry....no other ideas, except as I mentioned above in trying the 'update initscripts again'. You've got nothing to loose if you're going to get another hd. The new initscripts won't cause data loss if you do a new install on a new hd. Sounds like a great plan. I did the same about 3 months ago and got a 120GB maxtor. The old is 30GB. Sorry it has come to this!
