Guest Anatoly
Hi! I have Toshiba Tecra 8000 laptop and I run Mandrake 10. I can't fix my ethernet card. I plugged in the card (D-Link) after having installed Mandrake. When I run "ifconfig eth0 up" or "ifconfig eth0 down up" the output is "eth0: unknown interface; No such device" When I run "network restart" the output is "Bringing up interface eth0: pcnet_cs device eth0 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization." A couple of times before when I rebooted my laptop the card was found and I had to configure it keying in ip-adress, etc. But now it does not happen even if I reboot. HardDrake does display my card, so as I understand the card is seen by the system. Anyway no can I bring it up, neither can I configure it. Please, help me.. devries
http://www.isbe.man.ac.uk/~iscott/linux_on...tecra_8000.html This says removing and reinsurting the card should do the trick :)
DragonMage
There is a known bug in Mandrake 10 (at least OE) installation. It seems that yenta_socket module is not loaded, hence making all pcmcia not working To fix this type this command as root modprobe yenta_socket And to fix this problem after reboot put the line yenta_socket your /etc/modprobe.preload file
Guest Anatoly
Hi! Thank you very much for the replies. I have tried both- running "modprobe yenta_socket" and adding "yenta_socket" to /etc/modules. The result of "modprobe yenta_socket" is that the card's LED lights but the result of running "network restart" och "ifconfig down up" is the same as before. Removing and reinserting of the caard does not helt either. It there anything else I could try? Best regards, Anatoly
