Guest petho
Hi! I've just installed Mandrake 10.0 on my new IBM ThinkPad T41p (dually booted with WinXP). When shutting down Mandrake the battery diod lamp is still lit even though I remove the power cord. I have to remove the battery and put it back to make the lamp go out. In windows the lamp is turned off and so it was on a previously not successful installation of Fedora Core 1. Any suggestions on packages to download or settings to change to make the lamp go out? Cheers Peter
tyme
post your /etc/lilo.conf as it may be a ACPI (power management) issue.

coverup
If you press and hold the power button for a cople of seconds, the laptop will shutdown and the light will turn off. For me, it never turned off when I was using the enterprise kernel on my T41. After I switched to the standard kernel, the laptop shutdown works without a hitch. It might have something to do with specific kernel config. By the way, do you use apm or acpi? Edited June 18, 2004 by coverup
Guest petho
I've upgraded to kernel 2.6.6 from the one distributed with the official Mandrake 10 distribution. Sorryfor asking a stupid question but how do I know if I use apm or acpi and what's the difference?
streeter
In Mdk, I think... If you don't have acpi=off in the append= section of lilo, you are using acpi. If you do, you are using apm
bvc
yes but the default is ht and not on....bad, in most cases. image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.6 label="Linux_2.6.6" root=/dev/hda7 initrd=/boot/initrd-2.6.6.img append="devfs=mount acpi=on resume=/dev/hda5 splash=silent" read-only Options= ht, on, off ht=run at bootup and stop. verify acpi is installed and set to run with [root@localhost root]# rpm -qa | grep acpi acpi-0.07-2mdk acpid-1.0.3-1mdk [root@localhost root]# service -s | grep acpi acpid (pid 3046) is running... Usage: lsmod Usage: lsmod [root@localhost root]# chkconfig --list | grep acpi acpid 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:on 4:on 5:on 6:off acpi 0:off 1:off 2:on 3:on 4:on 5:on 6:off [root@localhost root]# cat /proc/cmdline root=/dev/hdb9 devfs=mount acpi=on splash=quiet vga=normal [root@localhost root]# The service acpi can be checked in the Mandrake Control Center>System>Services as well. Make sure apmd is unchecked. On the other hand if after doing all this you still have problems, try using just apmd.
Guest petho
Removing and installing acpi did the job! Thanx for help!
keymonkey
I'm still unable to get my T41 to completely shutdown. Not a big deal, but I'm hoping to have all of these power issues resolved. I also hope that one fix will solve the hang, the battery monitor, and the shutdown issue. They all seem to be related to acpi. Any other suggestions? quote=petho,Jun 21 2004, 09:34 AM] Removing and installing acpi did the job!
