I checked my ap and it is running on netmask 255.255.255.0, but ifup is looking on 255.255.255.255. My ap will not switch to all 255s, how do I get ifup to look in the right netmask?? So close I can taste it! Thanks for all the help

Well.. no luck with connecting, but after uninstalling zeroconf, I think I may have finally arrived at the actual cause of the problem. Trouble is, I have no idea what it means. Without iwlist ath0 ap working, I'm unable to see if anyone in my building is running an open ap, so the true test will be tonight at home. I will update tonight from my ap if I can connect. Thanks.

I got the manfid from Greg over at Madwifi, and the card now comes up during boot without my insmod lines in rc.sysinit, so your changes worked!! Thanks. With that said, iwlist ath0 scan returns "Failed to read scan data: Resource temporarily unavailable. zcip is also grabbing control of ath0 to produce a ath0:9 interface. So it looks like there are still some surprises! Lucky me.

Hmmm....I don't think things are quite so dire. Kismet works, and I fooled around with the settings in MDK Control Center enough once to see communications between the card and the AP, but I have never been able to get a browser to load a page to get a ping to go through.

I have wireless tool installed, but cardctl ident retuns: open_sock() : no such device. I assume that's bad. iwconfig and the rest of it's associated tools are here, and I can launch all of them. Could there be another tool package I'm missing?

Has anyone out there been able to get an Atheros a/b/g card working under Mandrake 10? I have the driver loaded, and modprobed into the kernel at start. I also have a ath0 connection setup through Mandrake Control Center, and my APs ESSID set up in iwconfig, but there is no traffic between my ap and the card. Any tips/tricks to getting this card to work with 10? Another thing is that zcip seems to want to take over during boot, and I cannot seem to keep it from doing so. (doubles my boot time). I am unable to ping the gateway fo any ap. Kismet is an app that puts the card into "monitor mode" then lists information on all of the access points within range of your card. It also has gps mapping and airsnort WEP key cracking capability. A handy tool.

Compiling and installing the driver seems to be the easy part. I am now in the position of seeing plenty of open APs in kismet, but not being able to connect to them. I've deleted and recreated the ath0 connection in control center a million times, created an atheros section on my wireless.opts, tried all manner of essid and channel configs in iwconfig, and tried every combination of those three I could think of. The closest I got was packets being shown on the Control Center Monitor, but no ability to load a website in Mozilla or Konqueror. Currently I am experiencing what looks like a zeroconf problem with long boot lag and an ath0:9 connection created. I've now buckled under and hooked up an external wifi adapter that uses my Ethernet. How demoralizing!. Can anyone give me some tips, or the correct files to change to get this internal card working? I feel like a fool with this antenna dongle hanging off my machine!! Help me regain my dignity! :-) Thanks in advance.

I'm still unable to get my T41 to completely shutdown. Not a big deal, but I'm hoping to have all of these power issues resolved. I also hope that one fix will solve the hang, the battery monitor, and the shutdown issue. They all seem to be related to acpi. All of this works for me, but I still have no Laptop Batter option in KDE Control Center, or a link to the applet. Is there more to do?

So I couldn't figure out why I would often come back to my machine with a blank screen. No keyboard or touchpad input worked, so I was forced to hardboot. I then remembered that not only does KDE have power save option (which I had disabled) but so does IBM. So I disabled all of them in the BIOS as well. However, I would like to have some of the suspend/hibernate functions back. Is there a few config changes I can make so that my system can better handle a BIOS power management action?? Thanks.
