null
I am trying to get my old RH9 box back to accelerated nvidia 3D. I have done the nvidia thing a few times before, with mdk, and with RH, but this time I can't get thru with it. I d/l the driver, change etc/inittab to runlevel 3, rebooted to get out of X, ran the sh NVIDIA-blah blah, but then when I try to edit the etc/X11/XF86Config file to change "nv" to "nvidia" I get the following error: Gtk-WARNING: cannot open display I'm using gedit to edit these files. It's probably something stupid I am doing Edited June 1, 2004 by null
Steve Scrimpshire
You can't use gedit on the command line. Use vim or mc. cd /etc/X11 vim XF86Config <<hit i to go to insert mode>> <<make changes>> <<hit Esc, then type :wq and hit enter>>
null
thanks steve. I figured it out before I saw your post. I used vi to do the edit. I figured it was something stupid I was doing... Edited June 1, 2004 by null
