liquidzoo
Here's a newbie question, sorry; I don't know a lot about apache yet. How do I enable a mime type in apache so that it will enable that type of file to be downloaded? I am working on a side project, but in order for it to work, I need to be able to click on a link, and download the file specified in the link. I have a php script that generates all the header information for the file, but when I click on that link, all it does is display the header and content information on the page rather than prompt me to download it. Any help that anyone here could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
liquidzoo
Ok, I think I have the mime types added correctly, but how do I make it downloadable? All it does is display the content of the file, but it doesn't prompt for a download of said file. Can someone help me out with this please? theYinYeti
I think this is related to the behaviour of the browser, rather than that of the server. Look at Mime-types handling in your browser. Yves.
sglafata
I believe the mime-type you are looking for is: application/octet-stream <file name> Replace the "file name" with the file in question. The browser won't know what to do with it and prompt you.
Guest anon
In some browsers, you have to hold down the shift key and then click on the file to d-load
liquidzoo
These are aall good suggestions, but maybe I should explain what it is I'm trying to do. I am trying to make the 2 scripts I found here: http://www.a500hacking.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=510 work. It will allow me to download stuff to my phone. I don't know if I can edit the mime types of the firmware browser on the phone, nor do I know how to hold down a shift key. the application/octet-stream idea is a good one, but where do I put that?
