ttellefsen
I am trying to install the Nvida driver per instructions and the installer keeps telling me it appears that I have X running. Iknow startx will start it, How do I stop it? I have tryed key command ctr-alt-esc, Alt-esc, ctr-esc, running in non-fsb, and failsafe with the same error. I am running 10 community with KDE 3.0. Thanks.

Ixthusdan
Simplest is to su to root in a terminal, type "init 3" and boom, no x. Log in, su to root, do your stuff, edit /etc/X11/XFConfig-4, and then type "init 5". After you are back in x, you can hit ctrl-alt-F1, and log out your session. Then ctrl-alt-F7 should get you back to your x session.
