Lord Kenneth
It looks different now. There's no more "Open", "Save", etc Icons. And when I click on a folder it opens a new window instead of just switching in the current window, which is extermely annoying. Anyone got any ideas, or is this how the new nautilus is SUPPOSED to be???
tyme
that's spatial nautilus. it's the new way, and i've gotten used to it. however, if you want to go back to the previous way just run gconf-editor look under apps -> nautilus -> preferences and look for the "always user browser" and check it. nautilus will then look like it did before. tyme
i did too at first, until i learned that double middle click will close the current window and up the new directory in a new window, and that where ever the window was position/sized/etc. for that directory the last time you opened it, it'll open up exactly the same next time. and a lot of other things. backspace to go up a directory, stuff like that. liberforce
And when I click on a folder it opens a new window instead of just switching in the current window, which is extermely annoying. Anyone got any ideas, or is this how the new nautilus is SUPPOSED to be??? That's the idea : all your windows retain their appearance. You can though open a window an close its parent at the same time to avoid having too many windows displayed, using shift+left-double-click, or double-middle-click. You also have a button on the low-left corner : with the name of the directory. Click on it an you will have a list that allows you to open any parent window easily. There's also a menu that allows to close all the parents of the current window, to clean things. And finally the CTRL + L shortcut displays a popup to enter a path to open. I always hated the explorer-like "browsing view", its sooo inconvenient to copy or move files (especially across a network). New nautilus is really powerful, once given a little habit, and gives a very intuitive and clean interface for newbies. Now with spatial nautilus, I feel happy again ! :D
bvc
urpmi.update -a>urpmi --auto -auto-select>got my nautilus up and running finally. There's was about 15 gnome related pkgs updated. I don't need to give spatial nautilus a chance.....it sucks.....hard.....explorer-like browsing is a lot more convenient in all aspects, IMO. To each his own I guess. capnkirby
Simple fix to return it to the 2.4 look is to add "-browser" to the launcher. I haven't decided on the new style so I have one that launches the new way and one that launches the old... I'm sure I'll make up my mind one of these years...... bvc
Using the 'explorer'-view, has anyone figured out how to make it remember window sizes and position, or was that lost to spatial?
