Hi,

great to see a fellow (to be) BeOS-user. Beos4Linux (as I assume you have) is basically selfcontained inside Linux and it isn't actually harder than

reports.

Alas, I truly recommend using the latest version of the 'BeOS MAX Edition' (currently v2) and use it standalone.

It's over at http://www.bebits.com/app/3089 and includes more software and usable drivers for newer hardware.

If you like what you see, then take a look at http://www.openbeos.org/ for what could be the next thing.

I still use BeOS a few hours per week; mainly to get the kick out of the speed and usability of the OS. It is damn quick and responsive when you're used to Windows and XFree86. Could be a pleasant acquintance of yours, I'm sure.

Good luck!

I'm trying that BeOS Max thing.

But I don't like booting from floppy disks... I'm gonna look at getting it into my bootloader, if that's possible.

I used to love BeOS.

Lilo is quite capable of booting BeOS (the standalone one, at least, don't really know about that old beos4linux). Just point at the partition like this in /etc/lilo.conf

other=/dev/hda2

label=BeOS

table=/dev/hda

and re-run 'lilo' as root. Obviously you should substitute your partition though (here /dev/hda2) and what drivetable it is (hdb if on second disk and so on).

Grub? I never used grub, so I don't know.

Cheers,

Pez
